While National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is
coming to a close, the work to raise awareness of people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities is just beginning.
Those who care about and advocate on behalf of someone with
a disability know the misconceptions that exist, and the gaps that prevent their
loved ones from reaching their full potential. It can be frustrating. For every
step forward, it feels like there can be two steps backward.
But armed with good information and a plan, there’s no limit to the good that can be achieved.
That is why Bethesda created a new resource entitled “Facing Inequities Head On.” It highlights the work that must be done in key areas like health care, housing, employment and connection to community. It shows ways that everyday people, community groups and lawmakers can help.
